It was good to be home after a long and tiring school year. Themis padded barefoot down the hallway towards the dining room, where he was sure his mother was. He’d only just gotten home within the last few hours, and hadn’t yet had time to talk to her or his grandparents about his year, or at least what they hadn’t heard already in his long and informative letters home. He’d changed out of his uniform and was now in a pair of black shorts and a long shirt that almost covered his shorts completely. He pushed open the door to the dining room, where he found his mother and grandparents sitting, enjoying afternoon tea. He smiled, bounding over and sitting with them.
His mother was a petite woman, hardly taller than her son, with long, curly gold locks and eyes the same royal purple as Themis. His grandparents on the other hand looked nothing like either one of them. This was due to the fact that they weren't related at all. The elderly couple had taken in a young Euthalia Floros as a pregnant teenager and treated her as their own daughter, since, never having been able to have their own children.
"Hello!" Themis greeted sweetly as he folded his hands in his lap. All the adults smiled back at the boy.
"Hello, sweetie." his mother greeted in return. "It's so good to have you home. How was school?"
Themis grinned. "It was great! I met this really nice boy. He's Chinese and he thinks I'm a girl." Euthalia chuckled lightly.
"Oh? And what do you think of this boy?" she asked, catching the pink of Themis' cheeks. He blushed further.
"Well... I think he's kinda cute... "
Themis blushed when his mother began giggling further, while his grandparents just smiled at him. Soon, though, they all turned serious.
"You aren't pretending to be a girl so he'll like you, are you?" Euthalia began.
"Because that's never a good idea." his grandmother continued.
"He should like you for yourself." His grandfather finished.
Themis huffed a small sigh. "No, I'm not. I thought it was funny at first that he thought I was a girl, but now I'm really starting to like him... I know I'll have to tell him, but not I'm worried. I wouldn't hold it against him if he didn't like me, but what if he's hurt that I lied to him? I don't know how he'll react to that..." he said, clearly worried. His mother pet his hair gently.
"It'll be alright, sweetheart. If he does like you, it won't be that big of a deal, though you will probably have to prove your trustworthiness once more." the elder and wiser woman spoke. His grandparents nodded in agreement, sipping at their tea as if it were punctuation.
"I know I will... I'll wait for the best time. The beginning of school seems to sudden..." he looked at the adults, questioning whether it seemed a good idea or not. They all nodded.
